Prof. Mattia Aime
Principal investigator
Mattia Aime is a neuroscientist investigating neuroplasticity and neuronal circuit dynamics during sleep, with a focus on their role in emotion and memory processing. He earned his PhD in Neurosciences from the University of Bordeaux in 2017 and has since conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Bern and the Neuroscience Research Center in Lyon.

Alberto Potenzieri
Postodoctoral Fellow
Alberto Potenzieri is a neuroscientist with both basic and clinical research experience in the field of neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric disorders. He earned his PhD in Neuroscience from the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) in 2024 and has since conducted translational research at Gaslini and San Martino Hospitals in Genoa. In April 2026, he joined the Aime Lab to investigate the neurobiological mechanisms linking REM sleep and mood disorders.

Sol Bencardino
PhD Student
Sol Bencardino joined the Aime Lab as a PhD student in August 2025. She earned her Licentiate in Biology degree with a specialization in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2024.
